Mystery on Sea provides an exclusive walking tour of the historic Clifftown and Royal Terrace areas of Southend on Sea.
The tour, which began running in June 2019, is designed, written and led by Adrian Fox and Tracy Wise, two locally based and experienced performers and storytellers with extensive knowledge of the local area. The walk lasts for around 90 minutes and includes some fascinating information about the history of the town, its buildings and landmarks; and about some of the famous people who have visited over the years. Woven in are tales of ghosts, legends and unexplained mysteries, and the walk is made even more entertaining with the inclusion of magic and a lot of fun.
The tour is suitable for those aged 10 years and over and is wheelchair friendly. Dogs are welcome - in fact they can sometimes sense the presence of our ghostly guests! To allow the best experience for everyone, the group size is kept to a maximum of twenty people.
New for 2020, Tracy and Adrian are currently working on a second tour, this time covering the Shoebury Garrison area with its rich history dating back hundreds of years. Keep an eye out for dates and details later this year.
Tracy is a respected author, presenter, lecturer and award winning magician with a specific interest in esoteric history and traditional folk tales and legends from around the world. She is a member of the British Society of
Mystery Entertainers, The Magic Circle, The Society for Storytellers and Equity; and she can regularly be seen performing across the UK.
Tracy has developed a unique blend of storytelling and magic to create shows such as 'Crime Scene Illusion', 'Nursery Crimes' and 'A Very Victorian Murder', as well as the popular interactive walking tour 'The Whitechapel Murder Trail' which explores the victims of Jack the Ripper through the use of forensic applications and magic.
Adrian has lived and worked in Southend since the age of three. He became a radio presenter at Southend Hospital Radio when it first opened and went on to present professionally at a number of Essex
based radio stations, including Essex Radio, Essex FM, Breeze, Dream 107, Southend Radio and Radio Essex.
Adrian is also an award winning magician and speaker and he can regularly be seen providing cabaret or close up magical entertainment at weddings, corporate functions and restaurants. He is currently the president of Southend's local magical society, Southend Sorcerers, an organisation that he has been part of for 25 years. With a keen interest in local stories and issues, Adrian loves combining his passion for magic and performance with the fascinating tales of the town's rich history that are explored in 'Mystery on Sea'.
